The Sustainable Christmas Market 2022
As part of Peace of Arts' partnership with SG Redress and City Developments, I had the privilege of participating in the Sustainable Christmas Market in November 2022. It is noteworthy that this event was Singapore's first-ever Carbon-neutral Christmas Market. As a member of the Mama on Palette artists, I contributed to the charity sale, where 100% of the proceeds went to aid the children of climate refugees in Pakistan. Floods in Pakistan have left a third of the country underwater, causing 33 million people to become climate refugees, and 10 million of which are children. The lives of these young people are now threatened by diseases such as gastroenteritis, typhoid, cholera, malaria, and dengue, in which proper recovery is nearly impossible because of a lack of medicines and clean water.
At the Sustainable Christmas Market, funds were raised to provide food, water, and shelter to these vulnerable children. The partnership with SG Redress and City Developments ensured that every donation directly supported the basic needs of these young climate refugees, providing them with some hope and stability in the face of their dire circumstances. Participating in this event was a profound experience that reinforced my commitment to using art for social good and highlighted the urgent need for global solidarity in addressing climate-induced humanitarian crises.
